Ben Simmons‘ playoff performance left the former No. 1 overall pick’s future in Philadelphia a bit murky. It seems Simmons and the Sixers are at a crossroads.
Because of Simmons’ inability and unwillingness to shoot, his time with Philadelphia might be up. Numerous pundits and former players have suggested a trade may be in the best interest of both parties.
According to reports, Simmons plans on spending his summer working on “skill development,” but the 24-year-old’s work ethic is actually part of his problem, according to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
During a First Take segment this morning, Smith shared what a source had told him about Simmons’ lack of basketball ambition.
“I just received a text from somebody very, very close to the situation in Philadelphia about Ben Simmons,” Smith said. “This is a quote. This is not me. This is them. ‘He doesn’t work, he doesn’t listen, and everyone around him is family, and he’s constantly babied.’”

Of course, this is second-hand stuff, so it must be taken with a grain of salt. However, Smith is well-connected, and Simmons’ dedication has been questioned by others before.
One thing is for certain: this is a pivotal offseason for the young Aussie. Wherever he suits up next year, Simmons must be an improved version of himself in order to maximize his potential and be a true asset to his team.
