Beach Volleyball
No. 20 Arizona State beach volleyball (3-2) concluded the Cactus Classic in Tucson with a 3-2 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-4) on Sunday. The contest wasn’t as close as it appears because the Sun Devils won the first three matches to earn the win.

Lacrosse
Arizona State lacrosse (2-1) dropped its first game of the season to Denver (1-1) 22-10. For the first 10 minutes of the game, the Sun Devils were right in it down by a goal. Until Denver went on a 7-0 run to go into halftime up by eight. The second half matched that run for the most part as Denver scored the final four goals and held Arizona State to five scores in each half.
Carley Adams had a team-high five goals for the Sun Devils. Kerri Clayton had a pair of scores and Emily Glagolev, Kaylon Buckner and Maddy Hunter all put one in the back of the net as well.
The Sun Devils next game will be to start conference play at Stanford on March 12.
Water Polo
Second-ranked Stanford (1-1, 1-1 Pac-12) looked like a team that didn’t want to leave Tempe winless. The Cardinal came out strong against Arizona State (7-4, 1-1) on its way to a 12-6 win.
Stanford rushed out to a four-point lead in the first half and seemed to control the tempo. However, the Sun Devils figured out something at halftime. Behind goals from Bente Rogge, Borbala Kekesi and Blaire McDowell, Arizona State cut the deficit to one.
The comeback was nullified quite quickly by Stanford keeper Emalia Eichelberger and the Cardinal defense. Arizona State was shutout in the final period, while Stanford tacked on five goals to earn itself a win.
The Sun Devils host San Jose State for a three-game set starting on March 20.
Volleyball
It’s not how you start, it’s about the finish. Arizona State volleyball (2-10) snapped its 10-game losing streak after it completed the reverse sweep to best Arizona (5-9) 3-2 on Sunday.
The two teams fought till the very end for the first set that Arizona came away with 28-26. The Wildcats kept the monumental and took the second set with ease. However, Arizona State kept the fight alive.
Set three started off as an even affair. Back-and-forth, the rivals traded points until it was tied at 11 each. Then the Sun Devils took off. A few services aces form Paige Denton and Arizona State went on a 14-5 run to close out its first set of the day. Arizona showed more will in the fourth set. Despite the Wildcats finding themselves down 21-15, they closed the gap to two. Big-time kills came from Iman Sanovic and Marta Levinska to force the final set.
The Sun Devils willed their way back to the win column. After being up 8-7, Arizona State took charge and finished with a 15-10 to close it out.
Cal visits Tempe on March 12 and 14 to face the Sun Devils.
Men’s Tennis
The winning streak finally came to an end on Sunday. No. 2 Baylor (16-2) swept No. 21 Arizona State (11-2) 4-0.
Baylor the doubles point after a 6-4 win from duo Charlie Broom and Matias Soto as well as their pair of Sven Lah and Constantin Frantzen scraping past ASU’s Nathan Ponwith and George Stoupe. The Bears proceeded to win three quick singles matches to beat the Sun Devils.
Arizona State returns home to play VCU on March 12.
