The Pittsburgh Steelers locked in T.J. Watt to a long-term extension this afternoon, and the two-time first-team All-Pro got paid in the process.
Watt held out this preseason until Wednesday. On Thursday, he agreed to a four-year, $112 million contract, making him the highest-paid defensive player in football.
Steelers fans are excited to have Watt back and with good reason. Over the last four seasons, he’s been one of the most dominant players in the NFL, racking up 230 tackles, 49.5 sacks and 17 forced fumbles in 62 games.
It sounds like T.J. is pumped to remain a Steeler too, which he made clear with his message to the fan base on Twitter after signing his deal.
“If it’s ok with Yinz, I’d like to stay a while! Let’s go Pittsburgh!” Watt wrote.

The Steelers’ defense should once again be the strength of its team this season, particularly up front. Watt will be counted on to deliver his usual production, even more so now that he’s been paid handsomely.
Pittsburgh will open the 2021 season this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
