The college football world lost one of its all-time great coaches as Bobby Bowden passed away this weekend. On Sunday, his son, ULM head coach Terry Bowden, spoke about his late father.
In a statement, Bowden credited Terry for being a mentor in his football career on top of being his father. He thanked everyone for their support in this difficult time for his family.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better personal mentor than my father,” Terry said in a statement. “He was a wonderful husband and father, who relied on his strong Christian faith to provide the foundation for his life. I also was fortunate to be raised by a football coach who had a reputation for coaching the right way his entire career. He was admired by everyone who played for him or coached against him.
“As a family, we will embrace all of those wonderful memories and celebrate a life well lived. My family has been touched by the outpouring of love and support from our families and friends in Warhawk Nation.”

According to the Monroe News-Star, the news of his father’s passing has led Terry Bowden to take a leave of absence from ULM. He is set to begin his first season at ULM after spending the last two seasons at Clemson.
Terry Bowden received his first coaching job from his father in 1982 but quickly went off on his own. Since 1983 he has coached at seven different schools, compiling a 175-114-2 record.
While Terry has never quite reached the heights that his father has, he’s enjoyed a long and successful career as a coach.
