Once again, Deshaun Watson rumors are heating up. Watson has been with the Houston Texans this offseason, but it is pretty clear that his time playing for the franchise is done.
Watson requested a trade after the 2020 season ended. Months later, he became embroiled in scandal, as over 20 women have accused him of sexual misconduct, for which he is under investigation by both the league and local authorities.
One would assume that any team interested in trading for Watson would want his legal situation to be resolved first. That hasn’t stopped months of rumors, with the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles being among the most frequent teams connected to Watson in recent months.
Earlier today, ProFootballTalk reported that there is “mounting chatter” about a Deshaun Watson deal coming soon, with the Carolina Panthers also in the mix. Now, Texans insider Aaron Wilson has weighed in, shooting down the previous reports.
‘Untrue,’ one source said when asked if trade is imminent for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson https://t.co/A2g5MU2WrN

“The Texans haven’t agreed to trade Watson to the Miami Dolphins, the primary suitor for the former Clemson star, and no deal is regarded as imminent despite a lot of conversations and speculation surrounding the three-time Pro Bowl selection, according to multiple league sources not authorized to speak publicly,” Wilson wrote.
He acknowledges that there have been discussions with the Dolphins, but it doesn’t sound like they’re close to matching the lofty price tag, which starts at three first-round picks, especially given his extremely tenuous legal situation.
We also don’t know whether the NFL will put him on administrative leave ahead of this season, or when he may reasonably see the field again. That makes it very hard for a team to justify giving up what is necessary to add a player of his caliber, especially at this point in the calendar.
