There Are 2 Notable Changes In Aaron Rodgers’ New Deal

July 30, 2021 by The Spun

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers #12 of the Green Bay Packers warms up prior to the game against the Carolina Panthers

The Aaron Rodgers saga is over–for 2021 at least. The Green Bay Packers star is officially locked in with his freshly revamped contract.

Rodgers reported to training camp this week after an offseason of acrimony between himself and the team. He reportedly contemplated retirement and wanted to leave Green Bay, but ultimately wound up returning to the only NFL team he’s ever played for.

As part of Rodgers’ reworked deal, multiple “concessions” were agreed to. Most notably, the 2023 year on his current contract has been voided.

Also, forfeiture provisions were taken out of the contract, meaning Rodgers won’t have to surrender any of his signing bonus.

Aaron Rodgers’ reworked deal now is signed, per sources. Here are the “on paper” concessions in the new contract:

So Rodgers will be the Packers’ quarterback in 2021. After this season, he’ll either decide all has been mended and he wants to extend his stay with the team, or he’ll ask to be traded.

If the latter route is where this goes, expect the three-time MVP to have significant say in where he is dealt next offseason.
