Trey Lance Took A Big Step At Practice On Wednesday

September 9, 2021 by The Spun

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance on the field.

San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance, who has been dealing with a finger injury, took an important step in practice today.

Lance fractured a finger on his throwing hand in the Niners’ preseason finale against the Raiders on August 29. Since then, he hadn’t thrown in practice–until this afternoon.

NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco reported that Lance threw passes during today’s session. This comes the day after he got rid of the brace he had been wearing on his injured digit.

You can see some footage of Lance tossing the pill below.

Now, there’s no pressure to rush Lance, as he won’t begin the year as the starter. Head coach Kyle Shanahan once again made that clear without making it “official” earlier today.

Still, it’s good to see him back and going through his paces. The sooner he’s ready for game action, the sooner Shanahan can try and work the talented rookie into specific offensive packages early in his first season.
