Tyrod Taylor Reacts To Being Named Starting Quarterback

September 9, 2021 by The Spun

Houston Texans v Green Bay Packers

Just as many suspected, Tyrod Taylor was officially named the Houston Texans’ starting quarterback earlier this week.

The last time Taylor notched an NFL start was Week 1 of the 2020 season. After recording a win for the Los Angeles Chargers, the veteran QB suffered a collapsed lung in a freak accident before kickoff in Week 2. Replaced by rookie star Justin Herbert, he stayed on the sidelines for the remainder of the year

On Wednesday, Taylor reacted to the Texans’ decision to name him QB1 — showing his gratitude for being put in a position to lead an NFL team yet again in 2021.

“Everything that’s happened in my career has prepared me for this moment. I’m grateful for the opportunity,” he said, per Houston insider Aaron Wilson.

Taylor signed with Houston as a free agent back in March. After a full slate of offseason and preseason action, the Texans parsed down the QB room to three players: Taylor, Davis Mills and Deshaun Watson.

Mills was selected with a third-round pick in the 2021 draft, but after a disappointing preseason showing from the rookie out of Stanford, it was clear he wasn’t ready to start in Week 1.

Watson, the team’s former QB superstar, is in the midst of an ongoing investigation into the more than 20 sexual assault allegations levied against him earlier this year.

Taylor and the Texans will kickoff their 2021 season with a matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon.
