Believe it or not, Urban Meyer is inching closer to an NFL job. The former Ohio State head coach is scheduled to meet with at least one franchise during this offseason, and that meeting is going to take place today.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero is reporting that Jacksonville plans to meet with Meyer this Friday to discuss its head coaching vacancy.
This doesn’t mean that a deal between Meyer and the Jaguars is imminent, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction for the franchise.
Jacksonville isn’t the only team showing interest in Meyer, who would be a home-run hire for the organization. It appears the Los Angeles Chargers are interested in his services, as he’d be an intriguing fit alongside rookie quarterback Justin Herbert.
The #Jaguars plan to meet with Urban Meyer today to continue discussing the team’s head coaching vacancy, sources tell me and @RapSheet.
No deal is imminent and the team has at least one other interview scheduled. But an important step in the process.

Meyer has been linked to NFL jobs in the past, but something feels different this time around. Even if he doesn’t end up accepting an offer, it sounds like he’s more willing to hear teams out.
Although the Jaguars don’t seem like a premier landing spot, the franchise does own the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Perhaps that could persuade Meyer to become the team’s next head coach and draft their quarterback of the future – Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence would be the best options.
It’ll be interesting to see how this Friday’s meeting goes down and if there are any other ones in store for Meyer.
