Vikings Announce They’ve Signed A New Wide Receiver

August 10, 2021 by The Spun

The Minnesota Vikings are banged up a the wide receiver position and could use some help.

Rookie sensation Justin Jefferson is nursing a sprained AC joint. Bisi Johnson tore his ACL earlier in training camp and is out for the year. Adam Thielen wasn’t a participant in team drills on Saturday. Dede Westbrook, meanwhile, is still working his way back from a torn ACL he suffered last year. The Vikings need some help, as a result.

Minnesota signed wide receiver Warren Jackson on Monday. Jackson played at Colorado State for three years and caught 124 passes for 1,789 yards and 14 touchdowns in 28 games.

“The Vikings have added a wide receiver to the roster as training camp enters its final week,” the Vikings announced via Vikings.com. “Minnesota announced Monday that it has signed Warren Jackson, who played collegiately at Colorado State. … His best season came as a junior in 2019 when he recorded 77 catches for 1,119 yards and eight scores to earn First-Team All-Mountain West honors.”

This most likely has nothing to do with Justin Jefferson’s injury or Adam Thielen’s status. Warren Jackson will probably be replacing Bisi Johnson, who was slotted as the Vikings’ No. 5 or 6 wide receiver this upcoming season.

The Vikings have taken multiple hits already during training camp. COVID-19 has been an issue, particularly in the quarterback room. Kirk Cousins and two backups had to miss several practices because of the NFL’s COVID-19 protocol. They’ve since returned to practice.

Jackson, meanwhile, will soon join the team to provide much-needed depth at the wide receiver position.
