The race for the NL West is heating up as the San Fransisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers sit tied atop the division standings. The two ballclubs met this weekend in a vital series for playoff seeding purposes and a chance to take the lead in the race for MLB’s best record.
Unfortunately, a full-scale fracas marred Friday night’s game between the teams.
Video captured a brawl that broke out in the upper deck of the stands at Oracle Park in the middle of the Giants-Dodgers game. The fight seemingly began when a pair of Giants fans threw wild punches at one another and things quickly escalated from there.
A few seconds in, chaos had erupted. A handful of other patrons joined the fray, resulting in complete mayhem, as fans that didn’t want to be involved tried to get out of the way. It’s unclear exactly when the fighting died down, because security didn’t appear during the entire 45-second video.

No further information has emerged on what became of those who were involved in the fight. Suffice it to say, it’ll be a long time until any of them are allowed back into Oracle Park.
To be frank, a fight during a Giants-Dodgers rivalry game is disappointing to see. Having fans back in the stand for match-ups like these is part of what makes sports great, but there’s no need for things to escalate to this level, especially given the history between these two fanbases.
The Giants ended up winning Friday’s game in extra innings 3-2. The Dodgers captured game two of the series, setting up a decisive game three on Sunday.
