Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was reportedly a major player in the team’s draft decisions this year.
According to David Helman of Cowboys.com, the sour taste left in his mouth from the Wild Card loss to the 49ers was a big factor in what direction Dallas decided to go.
Per Helman, “Jerry Jones says that Mike McCarthy spent a lot of time in the War Room reminding people of the type of traits that are important in playoff football.”

I think, that the Cowboys think, that they got big boy’ed by San Francisco, & a lot of these picks are trying to correct that.

After finishing the season 11-5, Dallas laid one of the biggest eggs of the NFL season in its home playoff loss to the Niners in January.
The Cowboys were pushed all over the field to start the game. But, the team still found itself with a chance to at least tie. However, situational football killed those chances in the final drive of the game.
Dallas spent its first pick on a much-needed offensive lineman. Hopefully, the rest of the Cowboys picks can eventually help the team end its quarter-century Super Bowl drought.
