Yankees Assistant Coach Is Out Following 2021 Season

October 14, 2021 by The Spun

Word on the street is that the New York Yankees are going to keep Aaron Boone, but that won’t stop them from making other staff changes.

The Yankees have informed hitting coach Marcus Thames that his contract won’t be renewed, per Lindsey Adler of The Athletic. Thames’ stint in the Big Apple has subsequently come to an end.

The Yankees’ plate appearances were heavily scrutinized this past season. The organization needed to make a change to its player’s plate approach.

This could be the first of several big changes the Yankees make this off-season.

With Thames out, all eyes now turn to Aaron Boone.

According to MLB insider Buster Olney, Hal Steinbrenner is leaning toward keeping Boone for at least another season.

“Though the wait continues within the Yankees’ organization for owner Hal Steinbrenner to dictate the direction of the team in a fluid situation, he seems inclined to keep Aaron Boone as manager, industry sources told ESPN’s Buster Olney,” Olney wrote via ESPN.com.

Most Yankees fans would like to see the organization show Boone the exit.

New York’s 2021 season was a massive disappointment. The Yankees fell to the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card game. It was yet another disappointing postseason appearance by the most successful playoff organization in the history of the sport.

It’s starting to sound like the Yankees will give Boone another chance. But other staff changes are expected following the organization’s decision on Thames.
