Yankees, Pirates Reportedly Agree To Pitcher Trade

The New York Yankees don’t appear to be making blockbuster trades at the MLB trade deadline this year. But if you thought they were going to stay completely still as it approaches, you have another thing coming.

On Monday, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reported that the Yankees have made a pitcher trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Per the report, the Yankees are receiving pitcher Clay Holmes in exchange for pitcher Diego Castillo and infielder Hoy Park.

Holmes joins the Yankees in the midst of his fourth MLB season. He’s pitched in a career-high 44 games, finishing 10 games with a 3-2 record while posting a 4.93 earned run average.

Holmes has given up 35 hits and 24 runs in 42.0 innings while recording 44 strikeouts. He has given up 25 walks as well.

The New York Yankees acquired right-hander Clay Holmes from the Pittsburgh Pirates for infielders Hoy Park and Diego Castillo.

Holmes, a right-hander, has thrown 42 innings this season and has a 4.93 ERA. He is 28 and is eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter.

The move isn’t going over too well among Yankees fans, who are demanding bigger moves to save their frustrating season. Some are calling for Yankees general manager Brian Cashman to be fired while others are sarcastically declaring that this move has saved their season.

The Yankees are 51-47 and coming off a brutal series against their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox. But part of their most recent brutal loss was an inability to close Boston out.

Maybe Holmes can contribute to the Yankees’ ongoing issues at closer. Maybe this move will be a non-factor in how the season ends.

Rome wasn’t built in a day though. And the many problems the Yankees are having won’t be fixed by a single move either.
