Last week, former NFL quarterback-turned-analyst Tony Romo piled on the praise for New York Jets rookie QB Zach Wilson, saying the No. 2 overall pick could turn the struggling franchise around and be a “top-three” signal caller within the next couple years.
“I actually think Zach Wilson with the Jets is going to turn that franchise around,” Romo said last Wednesday. “I think Zach Wilson is going to be in the discussion as one of the top three to five quarterbacks very quickly. Within the next couple of years, I think you’re going to see him rise. I think he’s unbelievable. His ceiling is so high.”
Romo also compared Wilson to a current NFL superstar: Patrick Mahomes.
“It’s rare for me to say someone has the ability to get in the stratosphere of a Mahomes, but I think this kid actually has that ability. So when you have a quarterback like that, I think there’s no telling how good you can be. He can make up for a lot of weaknesses in a lot of areas for a football team.”
A week after Romo’s praise, Wilson responded to these glowing comments.
While he acknowledged that the former Cowboys QB was “nice” to say these things, the Jets’ QB1 isn’t letting it get to his head.
“Romo can’t tell the future,” Wilson said, per Jets insider Connor Hughes.
Zach Wilson says it was very “nice” of Tony Romo to say the things he did about him, but “Romo can’t tell the future.” He’s just trying to take it a day at a time.

Throughout his NFL broadcasting career so far, Romo has become notorious for “telling the future” when it comes to plays on the field. Jets fans will hope this foresight applies in longterm situations as well.
Notching his first NFL start this weekend, Wilson and the Jets will face off against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
