Grand Canyon basketball drops UTSA to win 4th straight

Jovan Blacksher Jr. had a career-high 25 points and Grand Canyon held off UTSA for a 74-71 win on Thursday night.

Gabe McGlothan had 13 points for Grand Canyon (7-1), which won its fourth straight game. Holland Woods added 13 points.

Blacksher Jr. has been directly responsible for 51 percent of all Grand Canyon field goals over the last three games. The junior guard has 23 field goals and 18 assists in those games.

Cedrick Alley Jr. scored a career-high 24 points for the Roadrunners (5-4). Jacob Germany added 18 points and Dhieu Deing had 11 points.

The Antelopes had to put forth a comeback effort in the game, falling behind 18-6 early. But GCU had a 34-29 lead by halftime,

Grand Canyon looks for its fifth straight victory of the season as it battles Mississippi Valley State on Saturday in Phoenix. Mississippi Valley State, meanwhile, is looking to break its current five-game losing streak.

DID YOU KNOW: Grand Canyon has posted an excellent offensive rebound percentage of 40.9 percent this year. That rate is the fifth-highest in Division 1. The offensive rebound percentage for Mississippi Valley State stands at just 25.8 percent (ranked 260th).
