As a 5-star prospect, the first to sign with Arizona under Tommy Lloyd, Carter Bryant came to Tucson with lofty expectations. One year in college showed that extreme upside, which will continue in the pros.

Bryant was selected 14th overall by the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night during the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft in Brooklyn, NY. He is the 27th player in UA history to go in the first round, 8th-most of any college, and the first since Bennedict Mathurin and Dalen Terry in 2022.

Since 1985, when the NBA instituted its draft lottery system for teams that did not make the playoffs the previous season, Arizona has had 17 lottery picks.

The 6-foot-6 Bryant averaged 6.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks in 37 games for the Wildcats in 2024-25, starting five times but mostly coming off the bench. He averaged 19.3 minutes per game, most of any freshman under Lloyd, and shot 46 percent overall and 37.1 percent from 3-point range.

Bryant scored a career-high 14 points in a January win at Cincinnati, matching that total in an overtime victory over Iowa State three weeks later. He scored 12 against Akron in the NCAA Tournament first round and had eight points vs. Duke in the Sweet 16 in his final college game.

He is the first Wildcat drafted by the Spurs since they took Marcus Williams in the second round in 2007. San Antonio also drafted Sean Elliott 3rd overall in 1989.
