
The state of Texas was a key part of Arizona’s recruiting territory under Kevin Sumlin, with 18 players signed from there in his tenure.
The Lone Star State may not be as big a priority under Jedd Fisch, but prospects from there are still showing interest in coming to Tucson.
Avyonne Jones, a 3-star cornerback from Southlake, Texas, has included the UA in his top 10 along with Arkansas, Colorado, Houston, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas Tech and Wisconsin.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Jones is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 938 player in the 2022 recruiting class, as well as the nation’s No. 91 corner and the No. 126 prospect from Texas. He has 16 scholarship offers, with Arizona making its initial pitch in late January.
A two-sport star, Jones helped Southlake Carroll High School to a 6A Division I state runner-up finish last fall and is competing in track and field this spring. He had 46 tackles (three for loss) and an interception in 10 games as a junior.
