Two other UA targets made it, too
On Monday, Arizona Wildcats linebacker commit Tristan Monday was named to the Butkus Award watch list for high schoolers.
The award is given annually to the best college and high school linebackers in the country.
The Scottsdale-Saguaro standout is the only Arizona native to make the list, and it’s well deserved. In two years, Monday has racked up 98 tackles, 44 tackles for loss, and 15.5 sacks in just 18 games. He is a natural pass rusher specialist, coming off the edge with a big burst and explosiveness. He will most likely play linebacker in Tucson. Expect another big season from him until then.
247Sports ranks him as the No. 788 player in the 2022 class and No. 12 player in Arizona.
It’s also noteworthy that two of Arizona’s top targets at linebacker also show up on the list: Tyler Martin and Harrison Taggart.
Martin was previously committed to Don Brown at Michigan but decommitted shortly after Brown’s departure. The 6-foot-3, 238 pound inside backer from Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA, officially visited Tucson back in June and the ‘Cats continue to sit in a great spot with him. As of now, Martin has focused his attention on Arizona and Nebraska, but has continued to take his time this go round with his recruitment. He is someone to keep an eye on as things progress.
Taggart is another player that UA is sitting in a good spot with. The 6-foot-2, 205 pound backer from Corner Canyon High School in Draper, UT, also officially visited Arizona last month. The visit went very well and the ‘Cats set the bar high for everyone else on his list. He is another player to keep an eye on as his recruitment progresses.
