Second Wildcat coach to get an extension this week

Before Ryan Stotland took over the women’s tennis program at Arizona in 2018 it had not had a winning record in several years. Under his leadership, the Wildcats have made the postseason in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2011-12.

Stotland will have a chance to extend that NCAA streak after signing a 3-year contract extension through 2028, the school announced Wednesday.

The 42-year-old Stotland has a 104-80 record in seven seasons, finishing at or above .500 each year. The Wildcats went 19-11 in 2024-25, going 8-5 in their first season of Big 12 play and reaching the conference tournament quarterfinals.

The UA lost 4-1 to Illinois in the NCAA tourney first round.

“Coach Stotland is building meaningful momentum—on the court, in the classroom, and throughout our community,” UA athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois said in a news release. “His student-athletes achieved a program-high 3.83 GPA and are active in serving our community, all while representing Arizona with pride and purpose. We look forward to building on that success under his leadership.”

Stotland, who was also a UA assistant from 2008-12 under Vicky Maes, is the second Arizona coach to receive a contract extension this week. Baseball coach Chip Hale was given a 4-year extension on Monday following a trip to the College World Series.
