In addition to representing his country, coaching Team USA has enabled Tommy Lloyd to do a little recruiting on the side with potential future Arizona players. That will be the case again next month, but he’ll also get to have some extra time coaching one of his newest Wildcats.
Incoming freshman forward Koa Peat is one of 33 players invited to participate in training camp for the U19 squad that will coming in the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland.
Peat, a 5-star recruit who signed with Arizona in April, is one of 13 players from the 2025 recruiting class invited to camp. Also in camp are seven players who have a year of college basketball under their belts and 13 from the 2026 prep class, some of whom the UA is pursuing.
Per 247Sports, Arizona has offered scholarships to Team USA camp invitees Christian Collins, Cameron Holmes, Brandon McCoy Jr. and Elijiah Williams. Also among the 2026 invites are No. 1 overall recruit Tyran Stokes and several other Top 10 prospects.
Lloyd is entering his second year coaching Team USA, having led the U18 squad to the FIBA AmeriCup title last summer in Argentina with a 6-0 record. The 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup is set for June 28-July 26, with Team USA facing Australia, Cameroon and France in pool play.
Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland and Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry will serve as Lloyd’s assistant coaches, while in training camp he’ll also have Hubert Davis (North Carolina), Nate Oats (Alabama) and Mark Pope (Kentucky) helping as court coaches.
