Koa Peat won’t make his official Arizona debut for another few months, but he’s getting a head start on becoming a Wildcat fan favorite while playing for his new coach overseas.
Team USA beat Australia 88-73 on Saturday to open the FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland, and the incoming UA freshman was at the forefront of that victory. He had 17 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals in just over 21 minutes of action.

Peat was 6 of 11 from the field and made 5 of 7 free throws. He scored 11 early points before running into foul trouble, which limited his minutes. He was one of four Team USA player in double figures led by incoming BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa’s 18.
Team USA is coached by Arizona’s Tommy Lloyd, who a year ago led the U18 squad to gold medal at the FIBA AmeriCup. The U19 team finished in fourth place in the last World Cup in 2023, losing to France in the semifinals and Turkey in the third-place game.
Next up for Lloyd, Peat and Team USA is a Sunday matchup with France, which beat Cameroon 75-50 on Saturday.
