Arizona freshman Mireia Jurado and her Spanish teammates are inching ever closer to a medal in the 2025 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket. The team has advanced to the semifinals after defeating Greece 68-31 in the round of 16 and Serbia 89-65 in the quarterfinals.
Jurado appeared in both games, coming off the bench both times. She played just under 20 minutes against Greece. As is typical, she entered the game about halfway through the first quarter.
Jurado had a tough go of shooting against Greece, scoring just three points. She went 1 for 10 from the floor, including 1 for 5 from the 3-point line. However, other parts of her game were on point. She grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists without committing a turnover. She committed two fouls.
Shooting was also a struggle in the quarterfinals against Serbia. Jurado went 1 for 5 from the floor, missing all four of her 3-point shots. She scored four points, with two of them coming on her 2-for-2 day at the charity stripe.
Despite her difficulty shooting, Jurado found other ways to contribute for the second straight day. She had five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 16 minutes against the Serbian team. She had one turnover and did not commit a foul.
Jurado has appeared in all five games for Spain. She averages 5.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 19.3 minutes per game. She also averages 2.4 fouls and 1.2 turnovers. She is shooting 20 percent (7 of 35) from the floor, with an accuracy of 26.7 percent (4 of 15) from 2-point distance and 15 percent (3 of 20) from beyond the arc. She has hit 83.3 percent (10 of 12) of her free throws.
Spain goes to the medal round on Saturday, July 12. It will face France in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. MST. The French team also enters the semifinals at 5-0 after winning Group A, then defeating Portugal and Italy. France has defeated Spain in five of the last six games over the past decade.
The winner of the game will play for the gold medal against either Belgium or Finland. The loser will try to win bronze against the loser of the Belgium-Finland matchup.
