
Mireia Jurado and her Spanish teammates wrapped up group play Monday morning with an 82-52 win over Poland. The Spanish side went undefeated in Group D of the 2025 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket, defeating Türkiye, Czechia, and Poland handily.
Spain and Poland went into the final game of group play with identical 2-0 records, but the Spanish team had outscored their opponents by 78 while the Polish team had a +45 point differential in its first two games.
Jurado, who plays under the name Mireia Jurado Pla, came off the bench in all three games. She averaged 6.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.7 steals per game. She went 5 for 20 (25 percent) from the floor, including 2 for 11 (18.1 percent) from 3-point distance. She was 8 for 10 from the line. She also had 3.3 personal fouls and 1.7 turnovers per contest while averaging just over 20 minutes per game.
Jurado came in against Türkiye with Spain leading 14-3 at the 4:26 mark of the first quarter. She played just over 24 minutes, scoring two points on 0-for-9 shooting. Both points came from the free-throw line, where she went 2 for 4. She also had six rebounds and one steal to go with three personal fouls and two turnovers.
She had a much stronger outing in the second game, which her team won 89-44. She entered the game against Czechia with 5:19 on the clock in the first quarter. Spain led 16-2 at that point.
Jurado was on the court for just under 17 minutes in the second game, scoring nine points on 2-for-5 shooting. She connected on 1 of 3 shots from distance and made all four of her free throws. She added one rebound, three assists, and one steal. While she had four personal fouls, she cleaned up the turnovers. She didn’t give the ball away at all in the second game of pool play.
Against Poland, Jurado once again entered the game about midway through the first quarter. This time, it was a much closer game with Spain leading 14-8.
She played just over 19.5 minutes against Poland and once again scored nine points. She went 3 for 6 from the floor, including hitting 1 of 2 shots from 3-point distance. She made both of her free throws.
Jurado added four rebounds and one assist, but she once again had issues with fouls and turnovers. She was whistled for three personal fouls and gave the ball away three times.
The tournament now proceeds to the knockout stage with the Round of 16. Spain will face Greece on Wednesday, July 9 at 11:30 a.m. MST. The game will be streamed live on FIBA’s YouTube channel.
Fellow Arizona newcomer Sumayah Sugapong will play for the Philippines in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup beginning July 12.
