Arizona’s prospective 2022 baseball roster is shrinking by the day in the wake of Jay Johnson’s departure to LSU.
Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.com has added infielder Kyson Donahue to his transfer tracker, making him the second UA player to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Freshman 1B/P TJ Curd, who redshirted in 2021, entered the portal last month.
Donahue, a second-year freshman, appeared in 11 games for the Wildcats but only had nine plate appearances. He hit .250 this season, the same average he had in 9 games (8 starts) during the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
In addition to Donahue, Arizona also lost another 2022 commitment on Friday. Justin Crawford, a P/OF from Las Vegas and the son of former Major Leaguer Carl Crawford, announced his decommitment via Instagram.
Crawford is Arizona’s second 2022 pledge to back out since Johnson was hired by LSU. Mikey Romero, an infielder from California, flipped from the Wildcats to the Tigers on Thursday.
July 1 is the deadline for college baseball players to announce their intention to transfer and be eligible for the 2022 season, so more departures could happen in the coming week
