When weather suspended the final round of the Amherst Regional on Tuesday, Arizona was on the cut line to advance to the NCAA championships later this month in California. But after play resumed Wednesday, the Wildcats fell below that cut line and finished just shy of getting back to nationals.
The UA finished the regional at Poplar Grove Golf Club with a team score of 10-over-par, good enough for sixth place out of 13 teams. Only the top five advanced, with Pepperdine getting the last spot at +9. Arizona was trying to advance to nationals for the second year in a row after placing 15th last May.
Three of Arizona’s five golfers birdied the final hole including Zach Pollo, who was 1-under for the round and finished 10th overall at -2. Filip Jakubcik was even in the final round and ended in fourth place at -4, one shot away from qualifying for nationals as an individual.
Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Wake Forest and Pepperdine were the Amherst Regional teams to move on to the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Arizona is expected to return four of its top six players for 2025-26 including Jakubcik and Pollo, both of whom will be seniors.
