Arizona now tied for longest active losing streak entering BYU game

Thanks to the Kansas Jayhwawks, Arizona now owns the distinction of having the longest active losing streak in FBS.

Kansas scored a late touchdown to hold off South Dakota at home on Friday night, snapping a 13-game skid in the debut of new coach Lance Leipold. That leaves the Wildcats, with a 12-game losing streak, atop that infamous list.

Misery loves company, though, and the UA is not alone as losers of 12 in a row. Old Dominion, which lost 42-10 at Wake Forest on Friday, has also dropped 12 straight, and that skid extends back farther than Arizona’s since the Monarchs opted out of the 2020 season.

And on Saturday Louisiana-Monroe, where former UA coach Rich Rodriguez is the offensive coordinator and his son Rhett Rodriguez started at quarterback, lost 45-10 at Kentucky to join the 12-losses-in-row-club, while Massachusetts took an 11-game skid into its game at Pittsburgh.

Here’s a list of the longest active losing streaks in FBS, as of 2 p.m. PT, with each team’s most recent result or upcoming opponent:

  • Arizona, 12 (7:30 p.m. MT vs. BYU in Las Vegas)
  • Louisiana-Monroe, 12 (lost 45-10 at Kentucky)
  • Old Dominion, 12 (lost 42-10 Friday at Wake Forest)
  • Massachusetts, 11 (losing 16-0 at Pittsburgh)
  • Vanderbilt, 10 (5 p.m. MT vs. East Tennessee State)
  • Bowling Green, 9 (lost 38-6 Thursday at Tennessee)
  • South Florida, 9 (lost 45-0 Thursday at NC State)
  • Syracuse, 8 (4 p.m. MT at Ohio)
  • UNLV, 7 (lost 35-33 Thursday vs. Eastern Washington)
