Arizona point guard James Akinjo has entered the transfer portal, according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.

Akinjo is the second Arizona guard in three days to enter the transfer portal, joining freshman Kerr Kriisa. Kriisa, Both guards announced their decisions to transfer in the wake of Sean Miller’s dismissal, but Kerr is reportedly still open to returning to the program under new head coach Tommy Lloyd.

Akinjo played just one year at Arizona after transferring from Georgetown but it was a prolific season. The junior averaged 15.6 points and 5.4 assists per game for the Wildcats and was the team’s most consistent scorer.

Akinjo was named First Team All-Pac-12 by the conference’s coaches.

An Oakland native, Akinjo played his full freshman season at Georgetown and began his sophomore year with the Hoyas but transferred seven games into the 2019-20 season. Soon after he committed to Arizona and spent the spring of 2020 learning the Wildcats system.

Entering last fall, Akinjo was expected to be Arizona’s on-court leader, and for the most part he delivered. Akinjo scored 19 points in his Wildcats debut, a season-opening victory against Grambling.

Akinjo was playing some of his best basketball as Arizona’s season winded down. He scored a season-high 26 points in the Wildcats’ final home game, a win over Washington.

Akinjo previously announced that he would be testing the NBA Draft waters too.
