Arizona soccer concedes early lead, falls at home to USC

For the 17th time in Jada Talley’s college career, the standout forward found the back of the net at Arizona’s Mulcahy Stadium. But on Sunday, Talley scored at Mulcahy for the first time as an opposing player.

Now with the USC Trojans, Talley returned to Tucson Sunday for the first time since transferring from Arizona this offseason. Fittingly, it was Tailey who scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute of the Trojans’ 4-1 come-from-behind victory.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in Pac-12 play in Becca Moros’ first season as head coach.

Arizona got on the board first with a Jenna Studer goal off a corner kick in the 11th minute.

USC responded with a score from Penelope Hocking in the 19th minute.

From there, the Trojans and Wildcats were locked in a tie for most of the afternoon, even as USC dominated the ball, ultimately outshooting Arizona 23-6.

USC finally broke through for a second goal on Talley’s score and added on with goals in the 80th minute from Jaelyn Eisenhart and the 84th minute from Croix Bethune.

Arizona goalie Hope Hisey had five saves on the day.

The Wildcats will look to regroup ahead of their road trip to the Oregon schools. Arizona faces Oregon at 7 p.m. MST Thursday on Pac-12 Network.
