Arizona’s redshirt senior pitcher Devyn Netz continues to be one of the top two-way players in the country. It once again earned her Big 12 Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Netz pitched 12.2 innings in three of Arizona’s four games last week, helping the Wildcats to a 3-1 record and securing a 2-0 record in the circle. She did not allow an earned run and gave up just five hits. She struck out nine without walking a batter all week.
Netz threw a complete game in Arizona’s 1-0 win over San Diego State on Friday. She also hit the solo home run that was the only scoring for either side. It was her second home run of the week.
She hit in all four of the Wildcats’ games last week. She hit .417 while scoring three runs and driving in four.
Netz is tied with teammate Aissa Silva for 11th in the country in strike percentage. The teammates both throw strikes 69.7 percent of the time. They are just ahead of teammate Miranda Stoddard, whose 69.4 percent strike rate is 15th in Division I.
Netz is ranked fifth in the nation in wins above replacement (WAR). Her 7.19 WAR narrowly trails the 7.21 of fellow Big 12 pitcher NiJaree Canady. Netz has a pitching WAR of 3.39 and an offensive WAR of 3.49. Her 3.72 defensive runs saved (DRS) is the second-highest among players ranked in the top 10 for WAR. She trails only New Mexico State pitcher Desirae Spearman.
She has allowed just one walk per seven innings this season, ranking seventh in the country and first in the Big 12. She is second in the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.44) and pitching wins (19).
On the offensive side, Netz is second in the Big 12 with 17 home runs, 58 RBI, and 1.21 RBI per game.
