The Arizona Wildcats announced Wednesday that up to 5,000 fans will be able to attend the spring football game at noon on April 24.

That is less than 10 percent of Arizona Stadium’s capacity, but athletic director Dave Heeke said this is the “next step in this important process” to reopen UA events to fans.

So far, UA softball and baseball games have been operating around 16% capacity.

“We have worked with the Pima County Health Department, the state of Arizona and campus partners throughout this important process that began with a very limited amount of player and coach guests at baseball and softball games,” Heeke said in the Wildcat Wednesday newsletter. “We progressed to allowing a limited amount of additional fans in recent weeks, hosted the public with limited attendance at football practices and have continued to take all the appropriate steps in collaboration with local health authorities and campus leadership. Our intent is to safely host fans for the spring game, and we will continue to plan while monitoring the health and safety of our community.”

Tickets will be free and some will be reserved for ZonaZoo members, though information on how to reserve your seat will be announced at a later date, according to the newsletter.

In case you missed it, Rob Gronkowski and Tedy Bruschi will be returning to Tucson to coach in the spring game.
