The loss to Arizona State cost the Arizona women’s basketball team two spots in the AP poll. The Wildcats check in at No. 11 heading into the Pac-12 Tournament, where they will be the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of Utah-Washington State game on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Stanford (4), UCLA (9) and Oregon (19) are also in the AP Top 25.

Arizona ranks 14th in NET and was recently revealed to be the No. 7 overall seed in the selection committee’s latest NCAA Tournament projections, but that did not factor in Arizona’s loss to ASU.

If you did factor it in, ESPN’s Charlie Creme believes the Wildcats would be a 3-seed in the NCAA Tournament instead of 2.

“Arizona has not played particularly well very recently,” he said. “They struggled with Cal, they were beaten pretty soundly by Stanford, they lose today at Arizona State. I think Arizona is one of those teams that’s moving in the wrong direction and I don’t think there’s a really good case after today’s loss that they can be anything higher than a 3-seed. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back and perform in the Pac-12 Tournament. But right now certainly not a 2-seed (in the NCAA Tournament).”

Arizona might need to beat a team like UCLA in the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals in order to return to the 2-line.
