Arizona women’s basketball was hurting for size with most of its transfers coming in the backcourt. The commitment of 6-foot-7 Achol Magot certainly addresses that issue.
Magot is transferring from Big 12 rival Texas Tech, but she’s not new to Tucson. The center played prep basketball at Salpointe Catholic, Sunnyside High, and Southern Arizona Prep.

Magot has seen limited action in college. She redshirted her freshman year then played just 34 minutes this season. However, she was an imposing big during her high school career.
In 2022-23, the Arizona Republic ranked her as the No. 12 player in the state. As a high school junior at Southern Arizona Prep, she was considered the top center in Arizona.
“Magot’s game is still somewhat raw, but her 6-foot-7 height is any coach’s dream to work with,” Dana Scott and Theo Mackie wrote on azcentral.com. “She’s made vast improvements throughout her high school career going from a one-dimensional rim protector to an imposing offensive threat with solid footwork on the block.”
Magot is still looking to tap into that potential. She averaged 0.7 points on 37.5 percent shooting this season. She grabbed 1.4 rebounds per game in nine contests. She did not play against the Wildcats when the Lady Raiders came to Tucson at the end of the regular season.
Magot is originally from South Sudan but grew up in Tucson with her mother and five siblings. She played both volleyball and basketball at Salpointe in her freshman season.
Texas Tech advanced to the quarterfinals of the WBIT before falling to Florida in Gainesville. The Raiders went 19-18 overall and 4-12 in Big 12 play.
Magot will come to Arizona with three years of eligibility left.
In addition to the commitment of Achol, Arizona also announced the official signings of three transfers. Cleveland State guard Mickayla Perdue, Kansas forward Freddie Wallace, and New Orleans center Nora Francois have all put their names on the dotted line.
UPDATE: Magot has officially signed. Her signing was announced approximately an hour after her commitment. Memphis guard Tanyuel Welch has also signed this afternoon.
