
First year Arizona women’s golf coach Giovana Maymon has led the Wildcats to a Big 12 championship and now a spot in the NCAA championships.
Arizona is the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Lubbock, Texas Regional, as announced on the NCAA women’s golf championship selection show Wednesday morning. The regional will be played May 5-7.
Arizona was one of 29 teams to receive an automatic qualification to one of six regionals. The top five teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which begin May 16.
Arizona is in the same regional as No. 1 Texas, led by former Wildcats coach Laura Ianello, who took the Longhorns job last offseason. Ianello coached Arizona for 14 seasons and recruited most of Arizona’s current roster to Tucson.
Wake Forest is the No. 2 seed. Texas A&M and Iowa State round out the top five seeds.
Arizona is coming off a Big 12 title in the program’s first season in the conference. The UA defeated Arizona State and Oklahoma State in a three-way playoff last Thursday. Junior Nena Wongthanavimok led the Wildcats with a runner-up finish by shooting even par.
Sophomore Charlotte Beck led Arizona with a 72.44 stroke average in the regular season.
Arizona has won three national championships (1996, 2000 and 2018).
