Five Arizona Wildcats wide receivers put their names into the NCAA transfer portal after Kevin Sumlin was fired last month. Now four of them are back.

Redshirt junior Stanley Berryhill III is the latest UA pass catcher to reverse course, officially withdrawing from the portal on Tuesday to return to the program.

Berryhill was the first of the UA wideouts to depart, entering the portal on Dec. 14, with Jamarye Joiner, Boobie Curry, Ma’Jon Wright and Drew Dixon following suit. Joiner, Curry and Wright have since come back to the team, while Berryhill committed to play for Ball State on Dec. 28.

It turns out, that decision was made too quickly, he told KVOA’s David Kelly, saying he would have had to end up in Muncie, Ind. just days after graduating from the UA.

“The timing of the whole situation wasn’t right,” Berryhill said.

Berryhill withdrew from the portal on Jan. 7, and after communicating with the new staff—particularly head coach Jedd Fisch and receivers coach Kevin Cummings—opted to return.

Despite Arizona going 0-5, the 2020 season was the best of Berryhill’s career. He led the Wildcats with 23 receptions, 227 yards and three touchdowns, and his eight career TD catches are the most of any returning player.
