Stoddard has Arizona’s fourth weekly honor since joining the Big 12 this season
Arizona pitcher/infielder Miranda Stoddard is having a fine year in her final season of college softball. On Tuesday, the Big 12 announced that she has been named the conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Stoddard contributed at the plate, in the circle, and at first base during Arizona’s sweep of Utah over the weekend. She went 5 for 7 with two home runs and a double at the plate to help the Wildcats win their first Big 12 series. She hit .714 in the series and had a 1.714 slugging percentage while driving in five runs. She also drew a walk.
Stoddard also threw 3.1 innings in relief. She allowed five hits and a walk but only surrendered one earned run. Her ERA dropped to 2.62. Her WHIP is 1.10.
Unlike almost every sport, the Big 12 does not award a freshman or newcomer award for softball, but Arizona has taken three of the six player of the week awards and one pitcher of the week award since joining the league. Kaiah Altmeyer took the player of the week honor after the first week, and Stoddard has now taken it the second and sixth weeks. Devyn Netz was given the award for pitcher of the week after the third week.
