A team of 22 with two pitchers who hit better than a lot of position players may just be too many. That’s one way to view the march out of Arizona softball, which reached eight with the addition of second baseman Logan Cole.
Cole became the eighth this week. The majority of the entrants went in immediately after the portal opened. The group included left-handed pitcher Aissa Silva, who has announced that she will stay close to home by transferring to ASU.
I am OFFICALLY committed to ASU. Thank you for all the support everyone has shown me. I’m so excited for the new adventures to come and to stay close to home! Beyond grateful to the asu coaching staff for taking me in as one of their own!! #forksup #asu pic.twitter.com/9QLFukynZx

Cole came in her freshman year and was the backup behind Allie Skaggs at second base. She has also been one of the backups at shortstop. She was hurt early in her sophomore year, then shared duties with Kiki Escobar at second this season.
Cole is engaged to Jacob Wilson, the shortstop for the A’s.
Silva pitched a great deal in her freshman and sophomore seasons. As a junior, she fell behind Devyn Netz, Miranda Stoddard, Saya Swain, and Ryan Maddox, serving primarily as a lefty specialist who came in to face a batter or two later in the game.
With the incoming freshmen, Arizona is down to 15 on next year’s roster. The biggest needs will be in the pitching circle. The Wildcats could also use help in the middle infield and the outfield for depth purposes.
Softball America lists seven of the Arizona transfers as three-star prospects. The outlet lists Kate Vance as a four-star, presumably based on her high school output. Vance did not appear in a single game for the Wildcats in fall ball or the regular season.
