The coaching staff Chip Hale assembles at Arizona will play a big role in what kind of success he has at the school. Holding onto a key member of the most recent staff is a great way to start.
Arizona has announced that Dave Lawn, who has been with the Wildcats since 2016, will be retained as the pitching coach. Lawn had served as Arizona’s “defensive coordinator” and also handled the third base coaching duties for most of the 2021 season.
Lawn takes the place of Nate Yeskie, who is now the associate head coach at Texas A&M. Yeskie was Arizona’s pitching coach in 2020-21 after spending a decade at Oregon State.
Prior to Arizona, Lawn was with Jay Johnson at Nevada and also has coached at USC (2001-07) and Cal (1991-2000). He has 24 years of college coaching experience, helping his teams win conference titles in the Big West, Mountain West and Pac-10/12 and make four trips to the College World Series including two with Arizona.
