ESPN released its annual Football Power Index (FPI) on Thursday, and the early projections for Arizona’s 2025 season aren’t very rosy.
FPI projects Arizona to go 4.9-7.1 – basically a 5-7 record – and gives the Wildcats just a 37.7% chance at reaching the minimum six wins to become bowl eligible.
Arizona has almost nonexistent odds to win the Big 12 Conference at 0.5%.
Kansas State, Arizona’s week 3 non-conference opponent, has the highest projected percentage to win the Big 12 at 19.9%, followed by ASU (13%), Kansas (11.3%) and BYU (10.4%).
According to ESPN, FPI is a measures of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season.
FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is, and its projected results Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.
A year ago ESPN projected Arizona’s 2024 team to go 7.9-4.3 in Brent Brennan’s first season as head coach. Arizona fell well short of that, finishing 4-8.
