Five-star Prolific Prep (CA) guard Caleb Holt is headed to the Big 12..
The 6-foot-5 Holt, the No. 1 shooting guard in the Class of 2026, chose Arizona over Alabama, Houston, Kentucky and Providence.
“For next year, I will be committing to the University of Arizona, I’m going to Tucson,” Holt announced on “First Take.”
Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd, who on Monday was named Big 12 Coach of the Year, coached Holt on the USA U19 team that won gold in 2025.
“I played for him at USA Basketball, so the relationship I got to be with him for like three weeks,” Holt said. “I saw what type of guy he was. On the court, he instilled a lot of confidence in me. I feel like in my game, I took a big step in my game. Big journey, different step in my game for sure.
“So I say him instilling a lot of confidence helped me out. But when I took my visit, definitely my best visit, my favorite visit, I had a lot of fun with the guys. And it was the culture there, the culture. The culture was just like how Prolific Prep is, where I’m at right now, It’s a brotherhood. Everybody’s close.”
Asked for a comparison to a current college player, Holt listed Houston guard Kingston Flemings, a projected Top-5 pick in the NBA Draft.
“I say Kingston Flemings, I’ll be right there in the top five conversation,” he said. “I’m going to go to Tucson and if they win a national championship this year, I want to go win a national with them next year. So I’m going in, I’m going to win everything.”
As far as NBA comps, Holt said, “The main guy is definitely Anthony Edwards, I love how he can get downhill and create his own shot. I think I got a little Jrue Holiday in me, I love lock-down defense. And also Cason Wallace, I can play on the ball, off the ball. So those are three guys I like to watch.”
He added of his game: “Offensively, I’m going to be a knock-down shooter, create off the dribble, come off screens and I shot 42% from three.”
As a sophomore, Holt averaged 20.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and was named the Alabama Mr. Basketball, the Class 6A Player of the Year, the Gatorade and MaxPreps Alabama Player of the Year and ASWA Super All-State. Holt led Buckhorn (Ala.) to a second state title and was named MVP of the state tournament.
“[He’s a] consummate winner and two-way impact [player],” Prolific Prep coach Ryan Bernardi said. “Caleb will go down as one of the most accomplished high school players in the recent history.”
