Former Arizona forward Isis Beh enters transfer portal, checking into waiver for another year

Arizona forward Isis Beh had the best season of her career last year with the Wildcats. She’s also caught in between the NCAA waiver given to former junior college players whose eligibility would have expired after 2024-25. If she plays college ball next season, though, it’s unlikely to be at Arizona.

Beh entered the transfer portal at the end of the window and is exploring a waiver with the NCAA for another year of eligibility. The waiver given to former junior college players does not apply to her because her only season in juco was 2020-21. Players who spent only that season below Division I were excluded from the extra year.

Beh is also caught up with having no one at Arizona to advocate for her. With former head coach Adia Barnes and long-time supporter Bett Shelby at SMU and no relationship with new Arizona head coach Becky Burke, she has no advisors at UA. Like most players who enter the portal, multiple sources say that she is also not allowed to use program facilities to prepare for either another year in college basketball or a career overseas.

Beh did not play for Salt Lake City Community College in 2020-21, although she was on the team. She also did not play in 2021-22, her first season at West Virginia, as she recovered from an injury.

Beh did not plan to return for the 2024-25 season. She was exploring moving on with her life, perhaps getting into real estate. An effort by Barnes and Beh’s father got her back onto the court for one more year. After a resurgent turn as the Wildcats’ most consistent all-around player this year, her interest is once again piqued for more time.

If she can get that time, it would be her seventh year in college and her fifth year on the court. While most players on a team during the pandemic year of 2020-21 played for five years, those who redshirted that year were not given a fifth year of on-court eligibility.

If she cannot get a waiver for another season, Beh will likely try to play overseas.

Beh averaged 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this season. Those numbers increased to 10.4 ppg and 4.6 rpg in conference play. She was second on the team with 2.2 assists per game and had a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio during Big 12 play. She also tied Paulina Paris with the second-most total steals during league competition with 25 in 18 games, averaging 1.4 steals per game. Only Skylar Jones had more with 27 total steals (1.5 spg).
