Arizona’s baseball program refers to itself as an #MLBTrainingGround because of the number of players who have ended up in the big leagues. And that number is about to grow by one.
Tylor Megill, who played for the Wildcats from 2017-18, is set to make his Major League debut on Wednesday night for the New York Mets. The right-handed pitcher will start for the Mets against the Atlanta Braves.
An 8th-round pick of the Mets in 2018, the 25-year-old Megill will become the fourth UA alum currently in the bigs. The others are San Diego Padres closer Mark Melancon, Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Kevin Newman and Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec.
Ex-Wildcat outfielder Robert Refsnyder (Minnesota Twins) is on the injured list while pitchers Preston Guilmet (Miami Marlins) and Kevin Ginkel (Arizona Diamondbacks) and IF/IF Scott Kingery (Philadelphia Phillies) have spent time in the majors this season.
