Even though Rob Gronkowski has been retired for over a year, the honors and awards are likely going to continue pouring onto him for a long time. Next month, he’s going to be receiving a notable honor from one of his previous homes.

On Wednesday, the University of Arizona football program announced that Gronkowski will be one of the team captains for their 2023 spring game. His older brother and former teammate Chris Gronkowski will be the opposing captain.

“GRONK VS GRONK! Your 2023 Spring Game Captains are none other than  @RobGronkowski and @Chrisgronkowski!” the school announced,

The post is going viral with over 15,000 views and a lot of hype from Arizona Wildcats fans.

Rob Gronkowski broke records as a tight end at Arizona between 2007 and 2008, but injuries cost him three games in 2008 and the entire season in 2009. Nevertheless, despite only playing 10 games in 2008, he earned All-American and All-Pac-10 honors that season.

But the injuries caused Gronkowski to fall on Draft Day in 2010 and Bill Belichick managed to pick him up with the 42nd overall pick that year. The rest is history.

Gronkowski went on to become not only one of the best receivers in the league over his decade-plus career, but one of the best of all-time.

Canton will come calling eventually and the only real question anyone has is whether he’ll get in on the first ballot.
