Possible reunion with the Ducks!
You can never truly escape the Pac-12, even in the postseason.
Arizona is headed to Eugene for its NCAA Baseball Tournament Regional, opening play Friday at 1 p.m. PT against Cal Poly at PK Park. Host Oregon is the No. 12 overall seed and will face Utah Valley in the double-elimination format.
Arizona (39-18) has a long history with the Ducks (42-14) from their days together in the Pac-12, with the Wildcats holding a 29-27-1 advantage in the all-time series. Last year Oregon took two of three from the UA in Eugene, and the year before Oregon beat Arizona in the Pac-12 Tournament final.
Oregon has since moved to the Big Ten, where it tied for the regular season title but did not reach its conference tournament semifinals.
But first the UA must face a dangerous Cal Poly team that won the Big West Tournament title. The Mustangs (41-17) are making their first NCAA appearance since 2015.
Also in the Eugene Regional is WAC champ Utah Valley (28-27). The Wolverines are in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.
The Eugene Regional winner will be paired up in the Super Regionals against the winner of the Chapel Hill Regional hosted by No. 5 North Carolina.
The Big 12 got eight teams into the tourney field but doesn’t have a school hosting for the first time since the NCAA field expanded to 64 in 1999. Among the qualifiers is ASU, which is headed to Los Angeles for a regional hosted by fellow former Pac-12 foe UCLA.
Also hosting is Oregon State, which got the No. 8 overall seed, making for three ex-Pac-12 schools getting to host.
