It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Trey Townsend would end up playing for Arizona next season when he committed to the UA last month (and when the school announced his signing a week later).
But with the former Oakland wing having put his name into consideration for the NBA Draft, there was always a chance the feedback he got from that process would prompt him to pass on the Wildcats.
Crisis averted.
Townsend has withdrawn his name from the 2024 NBA Draft, per Joe Tipton of On3.com, moving the UA’s 2024-25 roster closer to being complete. All that stands in the way of that are the decisions of a few other players going through the draft process.
Guards Jaden Bradley and Caleb Love and Campbell transfer Anthony Dell’Orso are all still technically in the draft, each having entered in April to get feedback. None were invited to the NBA Draft Combine earlier this month, though Love did participate in the G League Elite Camp.
Guard KJ Lewis also went through the draft process but officially withdrew on May 17 and will be back for his sophomore year with Arizona.
Players have until May 29 (Wednesday) to withdraw and maintain their college eligibility.
