Brandon Williams made the best of his situation with the Dallas Mavericks this season, and it’s paid off with an NBA contract.

The Mavericks will convert the former Arizona Wildcats guard to a two-year deal, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. He is averaging 8.3 points and 2.4 assists this season.

The Dallas Mavericks will convert two-way guard Brandon Williams on a standard two-year NBA deal later this week, agents Derek Lafayette and Fess Irvin of Skyward Sports told ESPN. Williams began the season in the NBA G League but was called up at the end of 2024. Williams played sparingly in the month of January and only appeared in four games in February. Williams’ role as a backup point guard changed dramatically when Kyrie Irving went down with an ACL tear on March 3.

Williams played 26 minutes per night in the month of March, averaging 16.6 points, 4.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds. Williams scored a career high 31 points in a March 7 loss to Memphis.

Williams has been on a two-way contract with Dallas and recently maxed out his appearances this season.

Mavs were 4-1 in the last 5 games Brandon Williams played in before he reached his two-way contract games played limit.

With Irving expected to miss most if not all of the upcoming season, the Mavericks made a smart move by keeping Williams under contract.

The 25-year old attended Arizona for two seasons but missed his sophomore year (2019-20) with a congenital knee injury. Williams was one of the best guards in the Pac-12 as a freshman, averaging 11.4 points per game.

Prior to this year, Williams bounced around the G League for most of his pro basketball career and made a 24-game stint with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2021-22.
