Drake Caggiula has been claimed off waivers

Caggiula’s time in the desert is at an end.

Yesterday the Arizona Coyotes decided to put forward Drake Caggiula on waivers. The move made sense,Caggiula has struggled to find a spot in the team’s lineup, especially with AHL players like Michael Bunting and Lane Pederson pushing hard for spots.

But it looks like Caggiula won’t be headed to the taxi squad, or whatever the team’s plans for him was, and will instead be heading to the Buffalo Sabres.

Drake Caggiula played 27 games with the Coyotes, where he registered a goal and six assists. He never found a consistent spot on the lineup but spent a fair amount of time with Phil Kessel and Nick Schmaltz.

The Sabres are in the middle of an extremely bad season, and that is bad by their already low standards. They are likely to be sellers at the deadline, with former-Coyote Taylor Hall as the biggest piece they have.

Adding Caggiula will give them warm bodies if they do go into fire-sale mode. He has a one-year, $700,000 contract, so this move shouldn’t put too much strain on the Sabres.
