FFH Reacts: Confidence ratings and COVID

Things may have changed since this poll closed.

This is SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NHL. Each week, SB Nation sends out questions to the most plugged in Arizona Coyotes fans, and fans across the country. Sign up here to join Reacts.

The 2021 season has been far from smooth, both for the Arizona Coyotes and the rest of the league.

In the latest SB Nation Reacts survey, 60 percent of Coyotes fans said they are confident the team is headed in the right direction. That’s up from 56 percent last week but down from 67 percent two weeks ago.

Given the team’s successful showing in the seven-game series against the St. Louis Blues, it makes sense that things are looking up. But the team really showed they have some areas they need to work on, which could be why there is some trepidation.

This poll did close before the Coyotes’ 1-0 win over the Blues in Game 7. The Coyotes had just come off of back-to-back losses.

It should also be noted that this poll closed over the weekend before Katie Strang’s reported on several financial and work-place issues within the Coyotes’ organization or the team’s response. It would be an understatement to say that opinions may have changed since then.

The biggest issue facing the Coyotes and every other team in the NHL is clearly problems surrounding COVID-19. Teams around the league have had to reschedule games and deal with players missing after testing positive. However, even with that less than one-quarter of fans around the country think the NHL needs a league-wide pause to the season.

The Arizona Coyotes have had several games rescheduled due to COVID-19. But only two players have been put on the COVID protocol list, with only John Hayden missing two games.

Arizona is also one of several teams that are allowing fans during the pandemic. Attendance is limited and the team has several procedures in place for safety.
