It’s time for another round of NHL rumours. We’re into the holiday season, and that means some teams may need to do shopping to improve their rosters. Injuries happen throughout the season and alter the general manager’s wish list. Some of these teams may have to wait until after Christmas to make deals happen. However, some teams might need to get started filling holes on their roster.
One team that might have to make some roster adjustments is the Dallas Stars. This edition of NHL rumours deals with what the team may do after a key injury.
All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Dallas Stars Might Be Active in Trade Market After Important Injury
Rumour: TSN’s Chris Johnston talked about what the Stars might do in the trade market on a recent edition of Insider Trading. Dallas might need to add some reinforcements after the injury to Tyler Seguin.
Analysis: Seguin’s injury blows a hole in the lineup and leaves the Stars without a key scorer. The veteran forward will be out for months after an ACL injury. There’s some worry that the 33-year-old might be out for the rest of the season. Head coach Glen Gulutzan said that Seguin will be out for multiple months.
That uncertainty may force Dallas general manager Jim Nill to dip into the trade market. The injury may have a silver lining and allow Nill some room to add another scorer. Johnston said that the Stars will be getting at least $4 million in cap space after putting Seguin on long-term injured reserve. That space could swell up to $10 million if Seguin is done for the year.
Dallas is fifth in the league in goals scored, with an average of 3.45 goals scored per game. However, the Brampton, Ontario native accounted for seven of those goals and is a very important piece of the offence.
What It Means
Johnston mentioned that the Stars are in a holding pattern as they await a recovery timeline for Seguin. One of the main issues teams have to deal with is being salary cap compliant during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Teams can no longer stash players on the roster and have them magically ready to go for the postseason. Teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vegas Golden Knights did this. However, that loophole has now been closed.
Insider Pierre LeBrun mentioned that the Stars were showing interest in Kiefer Sherwood of the Vancouver Canucks. Sherwood is off to a fast start with 12 goals in 28 games so far this campaign with the Canucks. The veteran forward makes $1.5 million in the final year of his deal. This could make him a smart rental with the 30-year-old being in the final year of his deal. Dallas could still make a move or two even if they acquire Sherwood.
The Stars are in win-now mode and want to take a run at the Stanley Cup after making three consecutive Western Conference Finals. Nill will do all he can to get Dallas over the hump and into its first final since the 2020 playoff bubble.
