Home-runs? Diving catches? We’ve got ‘em.
Last year, this category was broken down into several qualifying groups, e.g. home-runs, outfield plays, etc. But with the season this time being barely one-third of normal length, I don’t think the number of outstanding plays merits doing that this time. So it will just be one group, combining all manner of candidates. I am especially open to taking suggestions on board here, because I certainly did not watch every inning of every D-backs game this season, or anything close to it. There are therefore almost certainly going to be great plays that I missed.
Which is where you come in. Please use the comments section to mention potential entrants. If you can link to a video of the play, so much the better – the MLB Film Room is a wonderful resource for that. If you can’t, provide as mich information as you can about the play e.g. who made it, the opponent, approximate date, the kind of play, and our dedicated team of crack researchers (me) will trawl the tubes of the Internet to see if they can locate the video on your behalf. If you see a play in the comments worthy of making the final ballot, give it a rec, as that will be a significant factor in the final decision of the judging committee (me).
On Thursday, I’ll be posting the five (or so) final candidates, with a little bit of description for each, and a poll whose results will be used to decide the final winner. But for now, here are the plays I noted down over the course of the 2020 season as ones which, at the time, struck me as possibly being worthy of inclusion.
